While I was waiting to pick up my order at Mio Sushi tonight, they were totally playing “Foolish Beat” by Debbie Gibson… a song I’d completely forgotten existed until tonight and is now stuck in my head forever.

I was also suddenly reminded that after a couple glasses of wine awhile back I promised Kris that I was going to be Robin Sparkles for Halloween this year…

This seems apropos for my first post to tumblr. At the very least, I know nyclust will probably appreciate it. :)

Back in 2006, a group of us were down in Corvallis tailgating at the WSU-OSU football game.

At some point, during the admittedly largely intoxicated afternoon, we somehow managed to create the best coffee drink ever. The problem, however, was that after the fact no one could quite remember exactly what was in it. We tried and failed to make it again. Occasionally we came close, but could never quite recreate that perfect ratio of coffee, booze and chocolate. Something was always missing, we just couldn’t quite figure out what.

All of this hit-and-miss finally led my husband (a Beaver alum) to observe…

Kris: ‘06? That was the last time they beat Oregon State, right?

Julie: Yes…

Kris: I think I know what the missing ingredients are.

Julie: Oh yeah? What’s that?

Kris: Hope. And victory.

Today, I think we’ve found those missing ingredients again. So without further adieu, I give you…

Hope and Victory

1 cup hot strong coffee (I used Newman’s Own Special Blend – Extra Bold)

1 oz brandy

¾ oz coffee liqueur (such as Kahlua)

½ oz white crème de cocoa

1 tbsp dark chocolate truffle sauce with Amaretto (or substitute 1 tbsp chocolate sauce and 1 tbsp Amaretto)

6 oz warm milk

Sprinkle of high-quality cocoa, for garnish

I frothed the milk using one of those little battery-operated frothers, and it was a nice touch.

So grab a Wazzu travel mug and mix up one (or two) for the road… to the Apple Cup. Go Cougs!
